After a sad life-altering situation took place, I was in a very low state of mind. My doctor strongly urged me to ‘get a dog’. That day I went to It Takes a Village. I am handicapped so didn’t feel like I wanted the challenge of a puppy. When I explained my situation, the staff all said “MEEKA”. I fell in love from the minute they brought her out. I visited with her 5x over the next week to make sure it was going to be a good fit for both of us. I think she sensed my desperation. She had been in the shelter a long time. She needed me as much as I needed her. She is my protector & confidante. She listens to me patiently when I’m having a rough day. .She is such a good baby. She loves to go for car rides and and on occasion when she has to stay home, she greets me at the door with more love than I deserve. We have a friend that comes to see us often & takes her for longer walks. When it’s time for bed, she has a blanket on top of the bed where she sleeps. She protects me from all the big bad squirrels in the neighborhood. Her unconditional love is overwhelming. I think she is my 4-legged guardian angel. And she has filled a huge hole in my heart and made my house a home.
